Whitewashed Flower Pot for Spring

How to Whitewash a Flower Pot for an Aged Look by www.whitecottagehomeandliving.comI love fresh flowers and tulips are some of my favorites!  They just shout spring and I love the promise of a new season.  I grabbed these beauties from my local supermarket this weekend. And though the polka dot wrapper is cute, I wanted to put them in a more permanent vessel that would fit with my home decor.

I have several terracotta pots lying around the house, who doesn't?  So I grabbed one that wasn't being used and decided to give it a little upgrade.  I wanted to make this brand new pot look a little more worn or aged; as if it had been around awhile.

I recently whitewashed a rustic pallet sign, so I decided to use that same technique on the pot.  If you missed the whitewashed pallet sign, you can catch up with that post, here.

Whitewashing is super simple.  There really isn't any right or wrong.  I used soft white craft paint that I had leftover from another project and diluted it in a small Tupperware dish until the consistency was liquid. Then the one tip I can give you is; use a rag to wipe the paint solution on, not a brush.  I learned the hard way with a brush which caused the paint to fly around the room!

Using your rag, wipe the paint all over the pot letting it dry between coats.  You can layer paint on paint to create multiple looks.  I wanted a light wash, so I only did 2 layers of paint.

That's it!

Add your fresh flowers and enjoy!
