READ with ME! March: The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah

The nightingale

My book pick for March was Kristin Hannah's new novel, The Nightingale.  I have read many of her books and liked them all equally, but this one was a cut above the rest.

The Nightingale is a historical fiction book about the effects of World War II on the lives of women and children in France.  The novel centers around two sisters and their story.  I was mesmerized by the picture she painted of life at the time of war and the hardships that were endured.

Here is a review I thought put it into words so well.

“The Nightingale is a beautifully written and richly evocative examination of life, love, and the ravages of war, and the different ways people react to unthinkable situations–not to mention the terrible and mounting toll of keeping secrets. This powerhouse of a story is equally packed with action and emotion, and is sure to be another major hit. I loved it!”
