For my local peeps who are following along with my blog, I'm going to start an, “Around the Town” Tuesday series. In the series, I am going to feature some of the great things going on around our city and the surrounding area. This may not be an every week series, but be sure to be on the lookout for these special posts.
This week, is an amazing week in Cincinnati. We not only have 2 of the 3 Christopher Columbus replica ships docking here, but we also have the WWII ship USS LST 325. These are open to the public and for you to tour. In addition to their stops in Cincinnati, they will be traveling the country, so if you aren't a local, be sure to check and see where they are headed too next.
Replicas of the famous ships Christopher Columbus used to travel, the Pinta and the Nina, will be open for public tours Sept. 10–20 at 301 Riverboat Row in Newport. The tours will be self-guided. Prices include $8 for adults, $7 for senior citizens and $6 for students (ages 5-16). Children 4 and under are free. If you are interested in a guided tour (I highly recommend it), it can be arranged.
You can read more about Columbus's ships HERE.
The USS LST 325 is only here until tomorrow, Wednesday Sept. 16th. So you need to act quick on this one!
Out of 1,051 landing ship, tanks made during World War II, the USS LST 325 is the last remaining, operational ship in its original war configuration left in the United States, according to a press release. You can read more about the history of this ship HERE.
The ship is docked at the Public Landing next to the Great American Ball Park and is open for tours through Wednesday. Tour hours will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the last tour starting at 5 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children and teens between 6–17. Children ages 5 and under are free. A family package is available for $20 and includes two adults and minor children.
Both of these were perfect for a homeschool field trip or a quick stop with your family. Very educational and unique. Don't miss them.
Have you made it down to visit either of these?
