We knew in buying this home three years ago that a new roof was going to be in the near future. It was leaking in a couple of different spots and after a big rainstorm, we had to put buckets down in a couple of places in the family room. Yep. Real life over here.
We've been slowly chipping away at projects including a fire pit in the back and lots of new landscaping. After living with this roof issue for awhile, we decided it was time. As projects go, usually one thing leads to another and this was no exception!
First let's take a look at the house before.

We went black in a 3-D shingle. I love how it turned out.
Another area that's been bugging us was the stucco in the pitched part of the roof area. Much of it was cracked which is hard to tell in the above area, but definitely needed to be addressed. In talking to our roofer, he discussed with us some options and we decided to go with a classic shaker shingle. This would help dress up the front and give it a little more texture. They make them in vinyl now which makes them long lasting.
Here's a look at what it looks like now!
Much better! I love how it adds color and dimension to the flat portion of the front.
The 3rd and probably most exciting project was adding a cupola! I have always adored the cottage homes that have them and now I have my own, yippee!
I worked with Good Directions (LINK) for both the cupola and weathervane. You may remember the Labrador Weathervane from my cottage garden (LINK) which is also from Good Directions. I love working with companies like theirs; both Made in the USA and family owned. We have a detached three car garage and with its view from the street and also our courtyard and pool area, it makes a wonderful cottage statement to an otherwise boring building.
I LOVE IT!
You might have noticed one more update~ I'll be sharing more about my red front door later this week!
