My favorite season of the year is fall. I love the crisp air, the fall leaves, the smell of a fire burning, and hot chocolate. I also love time spent at home with a good book and a throw blanket. I'm always so busy in the summer that except for reading at the beach, I don't do a lot of reading. I tend to gravitate more towards books in the fall and winter. When is your favorite time to read?
As far as decorating goes, fall is the perfect time to cozy up your home and add seasonal touches. Everyone tends to have favorite areas in their homes to decorate. Mine is my mantel. It's a focal point in the main living space of my home, seen from both the family room and kitchen. I try to mix it up each year so that I don't get tired of it. It doesn't always have a theme, but this year, I found myself inspired by books, so I added a subtle book theme to my fall mantel.
BOOK THEME FALL MANTEL
Pretty books can be found anywhere. I love buying old beat up books at thrift store and antique stores. The more the merrier! I usually look for a certain color of cover or pages that have ragged edges. They are a bit more interesting when used as decor. If you can't find books that you like as is, you can tie them up with a string or ribbon, or cover theme with decorative paper. I also love book pages for craft projects and just tied with a piece of string and used in a display like you'll see in my cloche below.
What do you think? It may be too busy for some peoples taste, but I love all the layers, colors, and textures. To me, it is the perfect representation of the season.
