Keeping an organized and tidy closet has always been difficult for me.  I have attempted on many occasions to organize my closet only to have to reorganize it again in a short time because it became a huge mess.  I recently watched a show on Netflix called Getting Organized with The Home Edit.  These ladies also wrote a book (LINK) which I have on my list to read. If you haven't seen it, I would highly recommend it.  I literally hadn't even finished the first episode and I was itching to tackle unorganized spaces in my home.  Today I'm going to share with you what I did in my closet to update it.  I used some of the key techniques I saw in the Netflix show.

We are lucky to have a large walk-in closet that we share, and it also doubles as storage for our suitcases and exercise equipment. Having everything in one place makes it easy to access what we need, but it can also lead to clutter if we are not careful.

If you are looking to transform your messy closet, the first step is to declutter. I started my makeover by sorting through everything and purging items I no longer needed. Once that was done, I decided to try a new approach to organization by sorting my clothes by colour. This was a major takeaway from The Home Edit, and although I have always arranged my closet by item type, such as keeping all short sleeves together and long sleeves together, I was curious to see if a colour-coded system would work better for me.

Since I have plenty of space, I combined both summer and winter clothes within the same colour groups. If your closet is smaller, you could still use this method for your current season’s wardrobe. The only exception I made was for shorts, which I kept together in one designated area.

Reorganizing my closet this way has made it feel more visually appealing and easier to navigate. I am excited to see if this new system helps me stay more organised in the long run.

I updated my jewelry storage with Stackable Jewelry Boxes, and I could not be happier with the upgrade. These boxes come with clear acrylic lids that keep my jewelry clean while allowing me to see everything at a glance. It makes choosing accessories so much easier.

One of the best features is that I can continue adding more boxes as my collection grows. This flexible storage solution keeps everything organised while making my jewelry feel like part of a beautiful display rather than a cluttered mess.

For my purses, they recommended these Chrome Metal Purse Hooks. This again is the first time I have ever hung my purses and I love that I can see them .  They make a pretty statement.  For clutches, I grabbed from The Container Store a clear bin to put them in. Beside the clutches, a clear tray holds my perfume bottles.

I added a faux fur rug to the floor to warm up the space.  A small stool helps me reach my shoes on the highest shelf.

By hanging more items, I was able to free up valuable shelf space for neatly folded denim, t-shirts, and shoes. This not only made everything more accessible but also gave my closet a cleaner and more organised look. Maximising vertical space has made such a difference in how my closet functions, and I love how easy it is to find exactly what I need without digging through piles of clothes.

If you are looking for ways to refresh your own closet, consider reorganising with a mix of hanging, shelving, and strategic storage solutions. A well-organised space can make getting dressed each day feel effortless and even a little more enjoyable.
