Goals for 2015: April

I took a few days off and enjoyed a mini spring break trip with my kids and parents.  We spent a day at Mammoth Cave, KY.  If you haven't been, it's worth the trip.  I had seen the cave as a child, but seeing it again as an adult was a new experience.  We did the Dripstones tour which allowed us a view of the frozen Niagara portion of the cave.  This part of the cave is heavy with stalagmites and stalactites. My kids, ages 11,10, and 4 loved it and had no problem with the almost 400 steps.  Grant was so excited that we were road tripping that he made a map before we left and took it with him to offer us directions to the cave.  So cute!

Here he is with his map!

(The lines drawn are the roads to the final destination, the orange thing, the cave, at the bottom right hand of the paper.)

Ok so now back to reality, and this is MAJOR reality.  I have a storage room in the basement which is out of control.

My goal for April is to get this thing under control.

Goal for April

1. Basement Storage Room

Purge, Organize, beautify my basement storage room.

I have to say that this one is embarrassing to show you, but to understand why I've committed to only one goal this month, you need to see what I'm dealing with.

IMG_8627 IMG_8628_2Yikes, cringe. Ok, move on.

It is a disaster and I didn't show you everything.  I will save that treat for later.

How did it get this way?  Well, that is hard to answer.  Maybe life?  We had an empty basement which was unfinished up until last summer.  So, with all that free space, things just got thrown down there.  It was easy to say, “I'll  just deal with that later.”  When the basement was getting finished, we did do a mini purge because we knew then that our storage space was going to be minimal.  However, we didn't do much sorting or organizing.  Instead, spent our time seeing how much we could fit in there and thought, “We'll just deal with it later.”

We'll I guess that later is now. My mom is in town and encouraged me to get going on it, so with her help, we began to tackle this project.  I will show you how it goes as we move along through the stages.  I am sure that along the way, I will find a lot of little projects to tackle alongside this big one.

Wish me luck!

To life feeling like home!

XO,

Amy
