Today I'd like to introduce you to my daughter, Olivia. She has a strong heart for serving others and has developed a little ministry of her own that I'm excited to let her share with you today.
“Hi! I'm Olivia. Thanks for having me today! I became concerned with homeless people about a year ago, when we went to Boston I and saw a homeless person. I wanted to give them something special, but what I thought? I felt so blessed to have a family who cared about me and loved me, blessed to go on vacation, have friends who not only care about me, but love me. If I could give them something like that, it would change their life just knowing that someone cared.”
“What I decided to do was make blessing bags. A little something to help them out and show them I cared. I gave out my first bag about 6 months ago and have since handed out about a dozen. I used my own money to purchase some supplies and then put together bags to keep in our car. When we see someone on the corner, we roll down the window and give them a bag. I have also made my mom carry them in her purse while downtown. The response has been very good.”
“We decided to include the following items in each bag; a pair of socks, toiletries, soap, toothpaste and a toothbrush, granola bars, a bottle of water, a comb, a bible and a card.”
“I recently had my 10th birthday party and instead of gifts, I asked my friends to bring supplies for my bags instead of a gift for me. Then at the party, every friend made a card to put in a bag. It was so cool how many things we got! I have been able to put together 10 more bags and have a lot left over to make future bags! ”
“I hope you can think of some way you can help those that aren't as blessed as you. It feels good to do something for someone else.”
Wow, I couldn't be a prouder mom!
I think sometimes as adults, we become numb to what we see around us. It is through the eyes of a child, that we can again see what God wants us to see. Is there something that you are being called to do? I'd love to hear about it.
I love this! We make these bags and give them out locally in Columbia, SC. It is so nice to see young people giving back and being so selfless. God is really speaking through your daughter Olivia. What a refreshing blog!
Thanks Kim! Glad you share our heart for the homeless. She’s a special little girl 🙂
What an amazing idea! That’s a pretty cool little girl you have there!
Great Job !!! my church did this as a group, we each had to bring in what ever amount they could afford to we had over 200 one gallon bags we each had about 4 to 5 bags to give out I will suggest that we do it again . God Bless.
What a great Ministry, God bless you.
Inspiring story!!! Let us all see life through the eyes of a child as we seek to become more like Christ each day!!
So proud of this young lady….she is a blessing to this family!
