Lessons Learned From My First “Simplified” Wardrobe

Many of you have been here right from the start when I introduced you to the idea of a “Simplified Wardrobe.”   If you need a refresher as to why and how this began, you can check out this post.

Today I am going to share with you what has worked and what hasn't with this little adventure of mine!

First of all, here are the clothes and accessories that I was working with for Fall/ Winter 2014-2015.

Likes/ What worked about the Simplified Wardrobe:

1. I found out that I really didn't NEED as much clothing as I thought I did.
2. Neutral colors don't get boring
3. Neutral colors make it easy to mix and match outfits
4. Shoes and accessories make an outfit fun
5. I didn't need to spend as much money on clothing to be happy
6. What was left in my closet which I didn't get rid of, but didn't include in my wardrobe, was not worn or even missed.
7. It worked to combine 2 seasons.  I think it would be too hard to do a wardrobe for all 4 seasons especially with the overlap of weather where I live.
8. I enjoyed the challenge!

Dislikes/ What didn't work about the Simplified Wardrobe:

1. There were still items that I didn't wear very often

2. I craved the challenge of putting together a unique outfit once in a while and I felt limited

3. I did get tired of certain items

4. Some items started to look a little worn

As you can see from my likes/ dislikes, that overall, I feel that this little experiment was a success for me.  I am going to do the same thing again with my Spring/ Summer wardrobe.  My goal is to start working on that very soon, so that I can roll that out within the next month.  I will be having several posts showing how I am going to pursue that end goal and you'll see how it all comes together. I hope you'll stick around for it.

To life feeling like home!

XO,

Amy
