Welcome to Week #2!
The “One Room Challenge” is a bi-annual event hosted by Linda of Calling it Home, where featured designers showcase their talents in making over a space. In addition, the challenge is open to all those who wish to share a makeover of their own with the One Room Challenge audience, via a weekly link up party hosted by the site. Linda has named those who do so, “Guest Participants.” It has been a great motivation to keep up with home projects that I have planned.
If you visited last week, you saw this Inspiration Board for my new home office space.
The One Room Challenge is a six-week challenge to fully complete the room. Each Wednesday, over at Calling it Home, you can follow along with the featured designers. On Thursdays, you can see the link up of all the guest participants and their week by week progress.
This week was all about the ceiling! Yep, let's bring that ceiling down. This may be my favorite addition to the room when it is done~ overhead lighting!
There is nothing worse than an office without proper lighting. I have struggled to work in there past about 5 pm for years. Enough is enough. The plan is to add 4 can lights and one flush mount center light. I want something pretty, so I decided a small chandelier would answer that.
I chose this wooden bead flush mount from Joss & Main. Isn't it pretty?

Iris 3-Light Semi- Flush Mount Chandelier
This was no easy task, so an electrician was called in to begin the work. Since this is the first floor with a room above, the ceiling had to be cut into for the new lighting. What a mess! Drywall dust is covering everything, so while this was happening, it was the perfect time to begin purging.
I love the pattern it gives on the ceiling at night.
Besides my pretty new light, the room is …… a complete and utter wreck, lol.
Lots of stuff is going. Both chairs have found a new home in the family room. The chest and small table are currently on our local yard sale site to be sold. The gallery wall is coming down and may be repurposed in the space differently. All cabinets and shelves are being cleared and I'm going through it all before we begin to paint the built-ins.
So what am I hoping to accomplish with this room makeover?
Here are my goals for the next six weeks!
1.Paint wall unit white to freshen up the look.
2.Add Overhead Lighting.
3. A project table of some sort where I can work on crafts and blog projects.
4. A reading chair that is comfortable.
5. Freshen up walls with new treatment and art.
6. A rug to anchor the space.
Be sure to check out the Week #2 progress of the Featured Designers over at Calling it Home.
The new light is beautiful, Amy!! Good luck this next week!
Thank you, Kendra! It is so nice to be able to see in this space past 5pm, lol!
Oh my that ceiling light was hard to come by. But it’s beautiful and for sure good lighting is worth it. I look forward to seeing the transformation.
Thank you! I’m loving the new light and the reflection on the ceiling is beautiful.
I love the forest green you’ve chosen!
Such a pretty light choice!
oooh I love that light! I can’t wait to see everything else you choose!
I love your style, Amy. That’s such a unique light fixture. And I love that little matte black planter you have for inspo. I’m still shopping around for planters for my space.
Looks like your home is going to be one beautiful place when you are done with all the projects. Your bathroom makeover is stunning and the rooms you have already completed in the ORC are also beautiful. Loving the new light in the office. I don’t have one but I can imagine how it would be working without proper lighting all the time.
Lighting makes all the difference in a space. It can make a space feel larger, warmer, and not to mention there are so many cute styles of lighting it adds to your home decor as well.
Love the colour scheme and your plan. And the light is just dreamy!
Love that lighting fixture! Good luck with your office it is going to be great!
