Welcome back to Week #2 of the One Room Challenge {ORC}. This challenge is hosted by Calling it Home. If you did not get a chance to see the designer posts for week 2 yesterday, you can catch up here.
This week, things started moving right along! If you recall from last week, I put together a list of objectives for my son's Modern Vintage Sports Bedroom and an inspiration board.
In order to even begin working in his room, we started the major clear out of furniture and tackled his toys by purging through and sorting them into giveaway or keep piles. That in and of itself was quite a job. With that under our belt and the room cleared, we started on the walls. Before the ORC began, I had looked at various different wall treatments but really fell in love with a wood treatment. I knew I wanted to use a darker color on his walls because the current blue just didn't match well with anything and seemed to much of a “baby” blue. If I went darker and added a wood treatment underneath, I felt it would keep the room bright and youthful like I wanted.
Like every other project, I began my research on Pinterest. I was inspired by many photos of board & batten treatment to add some interest and ground his room.
Here is one of my favorites.
So with that as our inspiration, we started on the board and batten treatment.
This is a pretty simple DIY project if you have the right tools, but we do not so I hired my contractor to install according to these dimensions.
55 inches high around the perimeter
Slats 21 inches apart
He removed the current baseboards and instead replaced with straight boards to look uniform with the rest of the wall treatment. I like the look of it being slightly more than halfway up the wall. It really highlights the color above.
Using a nail gun, he quickly installed the boards and then the paint went up.
I am totally in love! I really think it makes his small room look twice as big.
Now on to more fun stuff!
Thanks for stopping by. Can't wait for week #3!
I can’t find the name of that navy paint you used, and I love it! I want to use a similar color to refinish a dresser. Can you share what the name of the paint is? Thanks!
It’s called Naval by Sherwin Williams! Still one of my favorites. It would be gorgeous on furniture!
