Well, it's Week #5 of the One Room Challenge! That means there is only one week to go before the big reveal! I am excited to not only show you the space but that it's almost done! I am waiting on a set of curtains to arrive and then I will be putting the finishing touches on the space.
The One Room Challenge is sponsored by Calling it Home. Thanks to all who have been following along with each week's progress. Here is a quick way to catch up if you've missed any of my posts.
Week 1// Week 2// Week 3// Week 4//
This week was building his desk and getting the soft furnishings.
I decided to tackle the desk myself because the space I had designated for it was slim and narrow. Having recently conquered my fear of using a drill, I decided to make a simple desk using hairpin legs.
I began with a piece of wood that I purchased from Lowes cut to size. You can see Pokey is interested in what I'm doing!
After a light sanding, I stained the wood. Using Minwax stain in Jacobean and a rag, I began rubbing on the stain making sure to follow the grain of the wood.
I love the deep rich color of the result.
I finished with a polyurethane and attached the hairpin legs. For a tutorial and a look at another project, I did using hairpin legs, see the full post here.
Here are the bedding options that I chose.
Let's do a quick recap of what I've accomplished in the room so far.
1. New Wall Treatment: Board and Batten and new wall color (Week #1)
2. Storage: New bookshelf (Week #3), Antique Storage (Week #4)
3. Desk and a space to display his artwork: New desk (Week #5)
4. Bed: New bedding and blankets (Week #5)
Can't wait to add those final pieces and to share it with you next week!
Make sure you don't miss these weeks, Designer One Room Challenge Participants.

I love the hairpin desk! I have been wanting to make one for myself so I do not have to work at the dining room table. I love how the bedroom has turned out!
Mary, this is a perfect DIY project! The hairpin legs give it a chic and stylish flare. 🙂
