Today I'm honored to be a part of a group of bloggers who participated in a Silhouette Challenge. I received my Silhouette Cameo machine for my birthday last year. It was on my wishlist, so I was excited when I received it. I have tackled some projects, but I still have a lot to learn in regards to the machine and what it can do. I hope to stretch myself and learn more about its capabilities throughout this year.
One of the easiest materials I have found so far to work with is vinyl. Today's project is a super simple vinyl project. Last year, I put together a recipe book. This was a huge job of weeding out old cards and rewriting and organizing what recipes were left. You can see the full post on this organizational project, here. Since I spent so much time rewriting my recipe cards, I was looking for a way to hold my card when I take it out of the book and use it to cook. Often, I found my cards would get spills on them and get ruined during cooking.
I decided to make my own “What's Cooking?” recipe holder using my Silhouette to cut out the letters. If you don't have a Silhouette, then paint or stencil the letters on instead!
Here is how I did this project.
I began with a wooden pants hanger. You could leave it brown, but I painted it with white paint to match my kitchen cabinets. After painting, I used my Silhouette to cut out the words; What's Cooking?
I applied a decor wax to ensure that it will hold up to everyday use.
Finally, I tied a string bow around it for decoration.
Super simple, but sometimes those simple projects are the ones that make the most difference. I love that I can hang my recipe right beside my stove when I'm cooking and see the directions without getting my card messy. It's the little things, right friends?
LOVE IT? PIN IT!
