As I've said before on here, my mantel is my favorite space to decorate. I revel in coming up with a seasonal statement that I can plan my whole room decor around. After the excess of Christmas, I was excited to go simple with my winter mantel. At least, simple for me! We'll see how long this lasts, lol.
I first started by taking absolutely everything off of it. I wiped down the surface and sat with it empty. Instead of putting back up what was there before Christmas, I always like to go to Pinterest for my ideas. It gives me inspiration or a jumping off point to begin my decorating project. I usually end up picking ideas from a variety of sources and then tweaking it with the items I have and what works for our decor.
This winter, I concentrated on greenery and rustic wood with a touch of mercury glass.

I actually didn't buy anything new for this project which was awesome! I reused pieces and parts from around my home and previous seasonal decor. The skiis were purchased in the Target dollar spot last year, the mercury glass votives are from my dining room along with the wooden cake stand which I got from Gable Lane Crates. The three trees and the glass jar with pinecones were used in my Christmas decor. The mirror and window are both vintage. My tobacco basket has made many appearances all over the house. I bought a set of two sizes through Decor Steals last year.
I created symmetry on either side of the mirror by elevating one of the trees on the cake stand to match the height of the basket. Layering the mirror and the window adds texture and interest.
The cute wood slice garland is a DIY project that I will be sharing with you on Monday, so be sure to check back!
P.S. Don't miss my winter mantel from last year HERE.
