Neapolitan Krispie Treats

I fell in love with these little Krispies right away!  They not only taste great but look so cute!  Don't you agree?  They would be another perfect treat for Valentine's Day.

If you like Rice Krispie treats, then you will definitely have to try these.  The combination of strawberry, marshmallow, and chocolate can't be beat.

I first came across this recipe through the blog, Shugary Sweets.  Here is a link to her post.

Since it is layered, you prepare each layer separately starting with the bottom (chocolate recipe) and moving up from there.

Here is the breakdown of the recipe:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 jar (7 oz) marshmallow cream
  • 2 tsp milk
For the Strawberry layer:
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 10 oz bag mini marshmallows
  • 0.3oz package sugar-free strawberry gelatin mix
  • 5 1/2 cup rice Krispies cereal

Instructions:

For the chocolate layer:
  1. Line a 13×9 baking dish with foil. Spread about 1 tablespoon butter in bottom of the pan. Set aside.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add marshmallows and stir constantly until smooth. Remove from heat and stir in cocoa powder. Fold in cereal and mix until fully combined. Spread in bottom of baking dish, pressing very gently. Set aside.
For the marshmallow layer:
  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat butter with powdered sugar, marshmallow cream and milk. Beat for about 3 minutes until smooth. Spread evenly over the chocolate layer in the baking dish. Set aside.
For the strawberry layer:
  1. In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add marshmallows and stir constantly until melted and smooth. Remove from heat. Mix in the strawberry gelatin powder until combined. Fold in cereal. Spread gently over marshmallow layer. Cover with plastic wrap and allow to set, about one hour.
  2. Cut into desired pieces.

So I wouldn't eat all of these myself, I packaged up a bunch to send to school with Grant for his birthday treat.
