Setting Up a Homework Station

Ok friends, so am I the only one sad that school is starting?! It seems like the summer just flew by.  We were crazy busy and it seemed to go even quicker than normal!  Despite the end of the summer rush, we were able to fit in one last summer trip last week.  My parents, kids, and I made the 14 hour trip to South Dakota to visit my brother and his family!!  Such a great time! It's definitely hard being away from our loved ones. Are you in that boat? It was bittersweet leaving, especially knowing that it would be awhile until we see each other again.

imageNow that we're home, we are getting ready for the inevitable first day of school which for us is coming tomorrow! One thing I introduced you to several months ago was a small desk space we put together in my daughter's room. If you remember, we up-cycled an old vanity table into a desk.  This serves a dual purpose as a desk and nightstand for her.  I wanted to show you it again because we have spent some extra time making it new school year ready.  Here is the original post on how the desk space came together.

In assessing what needs she'd have this year for space, we decided good lighting, supplies and a place to file projects she was working on would be our priorities.

Utilizing a wall sconce and a hanging file helped save precious desk space.  Also, the great thing about this sconce from IKEA is it is adjustable and she can use it as a reading lamp as well.

All of her supplies are corralled in a tiny desk drawer or an up-cycled pencil holder.

No desk would be complete without a little homework pick me up which of course has to match the decor!

A quiet place to work is a must in a house full of active sibs, so I'm so happy that she has this little getaway for studying!

  2. What a sweet space! I love it! As a past teacher, I always stressed to parents how important it was to have a special space for homework. Just like their desk at school, they need to have the same school supplies, but I love your addition of kisses! How fun!
