Using Air Dry Clay to Make Rustic Gift Tags

Today I've teamed up for a fun Create and Share challenge.  A group of bloggers decided to try our hand at making something with air dry clay.  Confession time, I imagined all kinds of awesome things from vases to bowls, but there is definitely a learning curve involved in working with clay.  Though it takes practice, I can definitely see the reward if you are interested in giving it a go.  The more I worked with it even for just this one project, the better I got.

I decided to work my way up to a vase (maybe never :)) and instead started with something simple.

Supplies:

Air Dry Clay

Clay tools

Cutters

Alphabet Stamps– (I bought these from Amazon and they can be used on cookies also, which will be a fun future project!)

Instructions:

1. Begin by kneading your clay.  I started with a small ball and using my rolling pin, rolled out the dough.  I tried to keep the dough the same thickness throughout.

2. I then used the cookie cutters to cut out my shape.

3. Using the clay tools, I trimmed any excess clay left from the cutter and poked a hole in the top for the ribbon.

4. The alphabet stamps link together which makes it easier to stamp onto the clay.  I used words such as From, To, Thanks, Love, and XO XO for the tags.

5. Let your tags dry for several days to be sure they will not bend when you insert the ribbons.

This was a fun project and I can use these on gifts or even as a decoration for mason jars.
