A Thrift Store Cabinet Makeover With Green Paint

I have been obsessed with finding the lonely and out of date furniture at thrift stores lately.  My latest find is a narrow like console I turned from a beast into a beauty!

I was looking for just this piece when I came across it a few weeks back.  A narrow little cabinet that fits perfectly under the window in our family room.  My go-to paint has been white, but I decided to mix it up today and use a pretty little green color from Deco Art called Sage (LINK).  On top of that, I used a dark wax (LINK) to give it texture and an old world feel.

I first did two coats of the green paint then followed it by lightly brushing on the dark wax specifically on the areas where you would normally see wear (the edges and the cracks and crevices). I then followed it up by sanding.  I wanted to lessen the wax in some areas and this was a perfect way to distress it.

I hope this inspires you to take a second look at that old worn out piece that you would normally pass over!

XO,

    Hello Amy,
I love your article on this makeover on a cabinet. I have almost the same cabinet but it’s fixed outdoor. I’d love to use similar paint as the obe you used. I don’t know much about that paint because I have not used it in the past. Can it be used in an open area/outdoor?
