DIY Painted Kitchen Cabinets: 1 Year Later

One of my largest DIY projects to date was painting my oak kitchen cabinets.  Last year at this time, I was knee-deep in white paint and painters tape!  It was a major undertaking, but when it was all said and done, it was a major accomplishment.  I thought it would be fun to look back a year later and see how the painted cabinets are holding up!

If you are new around here and never got to see the before and after along with the step by step instructions on how I completed this project, you can visit this post here.

Here is the finished project post.

How are they holding up?  What has changed?

I can tell you, I am still as thrilled today as I was one year ago.  They are holding up GREAT!  I really haven't had to do anything maintenance wise.  There is one cabinet that houses our pull out trash bin.  That cabinet is used tremendously!  I have touched up the paint on that one because of little knicks.  I keep a paint jar with extra paint under my sink and I think I've used it twice over the last year on that one cabinet.  Other than that one, no other cabinet has shown any signs of wear and tear.  Any spills wipe right off and haven't stained.  Believe me, with a family of five, this is a hardworking space, so I'm thrilled with the result!

I haven't made any changes to the space. My open shelving cabinets have stayed open without doors.  I still may decide to add doors because I would love to have glass, but frankly, the ease of getting my everyday dishes and glasses out from the open shelving is working great.  I love seeing my white dishes and Ironstone.

For those of you on the fence about painting your cabinets.  I say, “Go for it!”  I don't think you'll regret it! If you need help getting started, check this post for all the supplies needed and step by step instructions.
