Hello! I am super excited to share the reveal of our gray and white cottage living room space. This is the first full room tour I have given you guys of our new home! You can get the preview of our sprawling ranch here. We have been in this new home since the beginning of November and it has been hectic with all kinds of projects going at the same time including our kitchen. I haven't felt like our house has been put together yet because we still have boxes for the kitchen in the dining room, but the one space we have worked on since we spend so much time together in there is the living room. This is where the tv watching happens and we hang out by the fire. I knew I wanted a calm and peaceful vibe in here. It is open to the kitchen where we are going with a combination of gray and white cabinets, so it seemed natural to extend that color palette into this room. We painted the walls my go-to creamy white from Sherwin Williams called Alabaster. If you want to see the before of this room, you can see it here and also read how we weathered this pine planked ceiling for a whole new look.
It's such a large space that we decided to float the seating area in the middle over layered rugs. This allows you to walk completely around the space and still have a good view of the tv and the fireplace. Additionally we added a small table and chairs in the corner for board games and playing cards. On the wall, I placed my antique dresser and an industrial book shelf. Both house collections such as printer trays, glass bottles, silver cups, and cloches. I used artwork from Etsy, Hobby Lobby, and HomeGoods on the walls. Behind the sofa is a white console table that I updated with paint. We changed out the overhead fan to a carriage house chandelier which brings in overhead lighting.
The space is large, but functions well for our family. The weathered wood ceiling makes the space feel dramatic, but with the soft color palette, it is still cozy and warm. I added lots of warm throws, a fur rug thrown over the ottoman and changed out my pillow covers to cable knit to reflect the winter season.
