This weekend we hosted our small group at our home and I was looking for an easy dessert to put with our meal. Few ingredients, easy to put together and offer a big punch; that's what I needed since most of our day was spent at a soccer tournament. I googled cookie bars and came across this cookie bar called by many different names, but I think Ooey Gooey bars best suits it.
It only takes 5 ingredients: yellow cake mix, eggs, powdered sugar, butter and cream cheese.
Here is the recipe:
Ingredients:
1 box yellow cake mix
3 eggs
8 oz cream cheese, softened
½ cup (1 stick) butter, melted
4 cups (1 lb) powdered sugar
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 300 and generously coat a 9×13-inch dish with nonstick cooking spray.
Mix cake mix, melted butter and one egg to a soft dough. Press into the bottom of the pan.
Mix powdered sugar, softened cream cheese and remaining two eggs until smooth, about 1-2 mins. Pour on top of crust.
Bake at 300 for 40-50 minutes until top is golden brown.
Oh man! These were golden brown , warm, gooey, and buttery! Really just heavenly. My only tip is they did need to sit out of the oven for a few minutes to congeal. When I first pulled them out, they seemed too runny, but not for long.
Really very yummy!
Quick and easy to throw together. You can see I had my little baking helper again!
Most Sundays, once the house has gone quiet and it's edging towards nine, a letter goes out. It's the one I'd write to a friend with good taste and not nearly enough time: one thing worth reading, one thing worth buying, and one thing to skip. No noise, no pressure to spend, just the considered version of what I've actually been using, loving, or quietly sending back.
If you like the sort of recommendation that still holds up six months later, leave your email below and I'll write to you on Sunday.
