I thought I'd start a blog series called READ with ME! I am a self-proclaimed “chick lit” reader, best seller, & tween book fan. Reading for me is pleasure, an escape, so I don't like anything too heavy. If it's not entertaining or something I can pick up, read five minutes while the kids are busy and put down when they start screaming “Mom!” then it's not in my fav category (at least at this stage in my life!) This month, I wanted to talk about The Maze Runner by James Dashner. Have you read it?
Really good read and the movie was just released on September 19. Here is a link to the trailer. I haven't been to see it yet, but I definitely hope to get there before it leaves the theaters. This was one of those books that may make an even better movie, in my opinion, because the special effects could be so cool!
Here is an excerpt: Thomas is deposited in a community of boys after his memory is erased, soon learning they're all trapped in a maze that will require him to join forces with fellow “runners” for a shot at escape.
The maze as you can imagine is filled with obstacles and unusual creatures that must be navigated in order to find a way out. The action is ramped up as you move through the story. It ends with a whole lot of unanswered questions which makes you want to keep reading.
It is a trilogy, so this book is followed by The Scorch Trials and The Death Cure. Also out now is a prequel; The Kill Order. In the prequel, we are supposed to find out how the experiment and maze came to be.
I'd love to know your thoughts.
