Spring Porch Refresh with Monrovia

Last month, I shared with you how I teamed up with Monrovia to start a butterfly garden project in my back yard.  The plants I planted are going strong through this cool and wet spring weather that we've had here in Ohio.  I will soon get back out there and add a few more to complete the area, but for now, I flipped my attention to the front of our home and to my front porch.  I finally got the chance to pull out our porch furniture and get it set up for the spring.  We have a small porch, but small doesn't have to mean bare.  We use this space not only as a welcoming entrance to our home, but I enjoy sitting out there waiting for the kids to get off the bus, enjoy a cup of coffee, or watch the kids playing in the front yard and driveway.  Several key elements make it a bright and colorful place to hang out during spring, summer, and fall.  This outdoor recycled plastic rug wears well and adds a layer of color to anchor the sitting space.  A bench and two wicker chairs can accommodate at least four people for a conversation or a glass of lemonade.  Colorful pots, pillows, and flowers in bright pops of color pull the whole look together.

I bought my Monrovia flowers from Lowe's and even before I could pot them, it rained.  I let them sit for several days in the rain and enjoyed them until the sun was shining again.

I decided on a variety of Monrovia flowers including impatiens and dahlias in bright colors.  In years past, I have gone with a color theme to my flowers, but this year I decided I wanted all the bright colors I could get.  My outdoor pillows are full of color and mixing and matching flower colors made for a happy and colorful space.

Last fall, I made this welcome sign out of an old barn shutter.  I decided to hang my flower basket on it instead of on my door this year for something different.  It may move back to the door, but for now, I like not being attacked by the flowers every time I open and close the door!

Our space is small, but small can also be warm, cozy, and colorful.  Try adding even just one chair or a trio of colorful potted plants to make your entrance a more inviting space this spring.
