We recently inherited a curio table from Greg's family. I loved the idea of displaying some treasures in it which represented our families, but the style of the table didn't really match our space. A little makeover was all it needed to update the piece and give it a second life!
You may remember it from when I shared the process over on Instagram Stories.

To update this piece, I gave the wood of the table a couple of coats of white chalk paint. In addition, the fabric on the display pad was very old and discolored. Using fabric leftover from another project, I recovered it by stapling new fabric over the old. It was a quick and easy way to change the upholstery.

In addition to painting and reupholstering, I added some brass wheels to the piece. It was sitting kind of low and I wanted to raise the height up to be more in line with the couch.
A new knob and a tassel were the finishing touches!

On the inside, I added photographs of my parents when they were younger, a stack of cards from our wedding, and a small notebook of hand written recipes from Greg's grandma. We also have a brass set of baby shoes that were my dad's and a pocket watch from grandpa displayed.

I love that I can change out the treasures inside any time I want or add new ones as I decide.
I hope this inspires you to take a look at a piece with a new eye!
XO,
Most Sundays, once the house has gone quiet and it's edging towards nine, a letter goes out. It's the one I'd write to a friend with good taste and not nearly enough time: one thing worth reading, one thing worth buying, and one thing to skip. No noise, no pressure to spend, just the considered version of what I've actually been using, loving, or quietly sending back.
If you like the sort of recommendation that still holds up six months later, leave your email below and I'll write to you on Sunday.
