Wrapping Paper and Gift Bag Organization

This is the 1st of 5 goals I set for the month of January.

I was a complete mess when it came to wrapping paper and gift bag storage. I actually had Christmas wrap and items in my bedroom drawers and under the bed and all- occasion items in a chest of drawers in my foyer. Not an ideal situation. It had been this way for as long as I can remember. Life just kept getting in the way of doing anything about it, so I had accepted the mess. Does that happen to you guys?

What I really wanted was a gift wrap cart, but couldn't find the right place to store it, so I was forced to come up with a Plan B. Well, I finally decided enough was enough and though it may not be the Martha Stewart wrapping room I envisioned, anything was better than what I had now.

I started by clearing out all my Christmas stuff from the bedroom. I did a major purge of gift bags and donated them to Angel Tree.  What I was left with was easily contained in a collapsible tote. I actually already owned two of these, so this was a  win- win that I didn't have to buy them.

I did the same with my all- occasion gift bags. Do they seem to multiply overnight at your house? Here are the drawers with all my bags.

I sorted these and the ones I didn't think I needed or would use again went to the Vets.

Here is what it looked like all put together. I was able to store tissue paper and flattened boxes in the bins along with the bags.IMG_6864

My next mission was to corral ribbons and gift tags. Again I divided them into 2 separate bins: one for Christmas and one for all- occasion.

In order to get everything in a more convenient location, I cleared a cabinet in my office to store everything. The dining room table is nearby which will be a great spot to wrap and put together gifts.

Next was the wrapping paper, I couldn't fit it in the cabinet, so I bought a wrapping paper bin and put them all together. A closet in the hall was the closest spot to store the bin.

All in all, I am thrilled with how this organizational project turned out. I'll keep dreaming of a wrapping room or cart, but for now, this is a great solution.

Everything is all in one place, organized and easy to access. I also have gained 4 drawers that I can now use to store other things. Yeah!!

What is your storage solution for wrapping and gift bags? I'd love to hear what works for you!

The Sunday Letter

Most Sundays, once the house has gone quiet and it's edging towards nine, a letter goes out. It's the one I'd write to a friend with good taste and not nearly enough time: one thing worth reading, one thing worth buying, and one thing to skip. No noise, no pressure to spend, just the considered version of what I've actually been using, loving, or quietly sending back.

If you like the sort of recommendation that still holds up six months later, leave your email below and I'll write to you on Sunday.
