One Room Challenge {ORC} Week #3: Modern Teen Hangout Bedroom

Devine Color by Valspar is one of my sponsors for the One Room Challenge.  They provided me with paint for this project, but all the good stuff you're about to hear comes completely from me!

It's Week #3 of the ORC and this week, I found the perfect dresser for the room!  I am so excited to show you guys.  You may remember that we are reconfiguring the closet because my daughter hates hanging up her clothes, so instead, we are going with a dresser for clothes storage.  We currently did not have a dresser for her, so that was the mystery item that I was praying I would find.  I did!  You guys, Goodwill came through and it is perfect for what we need. Wait until you see this makeover!

If you are just hopping in now, welcome!  I have joined Linda from Calling it Home as a guest participant in the bi-annual One Room Challenge.  Last week, I painted the bedroom, reconfigured the closet with new shelving, and dressed up a bookcase with a fabric backing.

Playing catch-up?  Here is what you've missed.

Some of the issues that need to be addressed through the challenge:

√1.New Wall Treatment: walls need to be updated to anchor the space

√2.Get rid of the bunk beds and instead, create a “couch” with twin beds.

√3.Find the perfect dresser for the space.

4.Reconfigure closet to create a desk space and storage.

5.New wall art and accessories for the room.

Week 3

This dresser was a steal for $60!  It is large with eight drawers and is a well-made piece.  The hardware is a beautiful brass that just needed a good cleaning with Brasso.

Using paint from Devine Color by Valspar, I painted the entire dresser in this gorgeous blue.  I am completely sold on this paint!  It is one coat coverage and contains the primer right in the paint, so no need to prime first!  I loved the color and the smooth and silky finish.  It comes in a variety of colors including chalkboard finishes and you can pick it up at Target!!

It dried to this gray- blue that is just stunning with the newly cleaned hardware!

Not to be outdone, I trimmed out the mirror with this gorgeous gold also from Devine Color by Valspar.  I have seen gold paint before that dries a real yellow color, this one dried a true gold with a shiny metallic surface.

And while I was at it, I painted a couple of IKEA shelf brackets I plan to use in the closet in gold also.
