One Room Challenge {ORC}: Week #1 Modern Teen Hangout Bedroom

It's Back!!

The β€œOne Room Challenge” is a bi-annual event hosted by Linda of Calling it Home, where featured designers showcase their talents in making over a space.  In addition, the challenge is open to all those who wish to share a makeover of their own with the One Room Challenge audience, via a weekly link up party hosted by the site.  Linda has named those who do so, β€œGuest Participants.”  It has been a great motivation to keep up with home projects that I have planned.  This will be my second room in our home I've redone as part of the challenge!  If you did not follow along with last spring's One Room Challenge space, I redid my son's bedroom into a Modern Vintage Sports Themed Space.  All the details of that reveal can be seen in this post.

Just like last time, it is a six-week challenge to fully complete the room.  Each Wednesday, over at Calling it Home, you can follow along with the featured designers.  On Thursdays, you can see the link up of all the guest participants and their week by week progress.

I’m excited to reveal the space I’m planning to make over this time with y’all today.

It's another bedroom!

This time, my oldest is getting her Teen Hangout space she has wanted.  She just turned 13 and is way into hanging out in her room, listening to music and relaxing.  I can't wait to give her a space that she will love and enjoy having friends over to visit.

Ok, so now it's time for the tragic before pics.

See what I'm dealing with?

Here are some before pics to get your mind around what a challenge this is going to be!

She could be called a hoarder.  Yep, she doesn't really get rid of things or put things away or really clean up her space, (sigh!)  I am constantly on her to keep a  neat and tidy room.  One of the things I've learned about her is that less stuff makes it easier for her to manage.  She hates hanging clothes up and without a dresser, that is her only option.  The closet track doors are always off track and things get stuffed into every nook and cranny possible.  I've decided to remove the closet doors and change it up a bit.  I'm also going to add a dresser and get rid of the bunk beds.  She is getting too old for them and instead would enjoy a lounge like area to hang out with friends and listen to music etc.

Some of the issues that need to be addressed through the challenge:

1. New Wall Treatment: walls need to be updated to anchor the space

 2. Get rid of the bunk beds and instead, create a “couch” with twin beds.

3. Find the perfect dresser for the space.

4. Reconfigure closet to create a desk space and storage.

5. New wall art and accessories for the room.

Here are some inspiration pics that I’m using to get me started.
