I told you how my house always seems to experience the winter blahs around this time of year, so one of my goals for February was to add some “green” to liven the place up! So I got right on this first goal and made a terrarium.
Here are the supplies I used:
I purchased a one gallon fish bowl and aquarium rocks from Wal-Mart. To be honest, there was not too many available plants this time of year, so once I looked them all over, I decided to go with a desert theme. Since we love AZ, this actually serves to remind me of our home there!
I purchased a variety of miniature cactuses and a couple of succulents.
I read that it is important to put gravel or pebbles in the bottom of the jar for drainage.
After the pebbles, I added a layer of soil.
Finally the cactuses. The tricky part was not getting poked!
I finished it off with a small layer of pebbles.
Here is the finished product.
I read for cactuses in particular it is best to feed them with a liquid plant food. I was able to find this Miracle- Gro which is specific for cactuses. It says every time you water them to add a little food.
I looked across the internet and found a couple of other terrariums for inspiration.
I LOVE the little rabbit!

There are tons of cute ideas out there. Which one are you going to try first?
This is simple and looks beautiful, I think it would be a good addon, thanks for sharing 🙂

What an awesome terrarium. I just started homeschooling this year, so I definitely plan on doing this. Thanks for linking up with us at Share the Wealth Sunday!
Your welcome! Thanks for hosting!
I have always wanted to make a terrarium and have never taken the time. What a great idea to do it in winter to bring some green into the house. I can’t wait to make one of my own. Thanks for sharing at the Family Joy Blog Link Party this week!
I love this and have always wanted to make one. We have the bowl but I’ve been putting it off. I’ve pinned to Over the Moon but also to my personal board for future info. This will be a project for 2017. Thanks for sharing with us at Over the Moon Link Up. Have a Merry Christmas and a wonderful 2017. Sue from Sizzling Towards 60 & Beyond
Neat! My litle guy would love this. Thanks for sharing! Happy holidays

What a great terrarium! How is it doing? I’ve been wanting to do one and bought everything, except I can’t find the activated charcoal and I thought that was necessary. If it isn’t though I’ll put mine together right now! lol
I found you on Merry Monday link up.
I didn’t use any charcoal and mine is doing fine! You’ll need to give it a try!
So pretty! I love terrariums. I have to try to try and make one for myself. Found your post at Family Joy Link Party
Thank you, Nicole! It’s a fun little project. So glad you liked it.

Thanks Michelle! It was really easy and allows you to be creative in your vessel and arrangement. Thanks for having me at Creative Spark!
This is so fun! I have been wanting one for awhile for my desk at work. Why buy one when you can make one! Thanks so much for stopping by Creative Spark Link Party last week. Hope you stop by again today! http://bit.ly/17pM9dP
