Barn Doors in Our Entryway

If you've been around a while, then you know that I have a love affair with barn doors!  We have one in our basement separating our laundry room from our family space.  Because we love it so much, we decided to install another one last fall.  I realized recently that you never got a closer look at it!  This is a set of doors, instead of just one door on a slider.  This new one conceals our pantry.  I converted a hall closet to a pantry when we redid our mudroom since the closet space was no longer needed.  My need instead was a pantry, so this closet right off the kitchen was updated with Elfa shelving from the Container Store.  Now I'm not sure how I lived without this pantry space!

Replacing a Sliding Closet Door and Create a Sliding Barn Door

The biggest hang up with the original doors and why I wanted to change them out, was that the sliding doors made it impossible to really see everything all at once.  Things seemed to get lost in the middle.  The solution for us was to remove the track and doors and instead install a barn track system with a set of barn doors.  Now when it is opened, you can fully see the contents.  Plus, it looks super cool!  I love the statement it makes when you walk in the front door because it's visible from the entry.

Here was the entry space before.

These were built by hand and painted by my contractor.  He purchased the tracking supplies at a local farm supply store.

The thing is friends, this is totally a DIY project you can do yourself if you have the right power tools.

Final thoughts for you;

Don't be afraid to try something new in your home!

  7. These look great! I’d love to do something similar for our laundry closet, but sadly, I don’t think we have enough wall space on either side to make it work. Love that these are so functional, but also beautiful!
