Beauty Buys: Choosing the Right Foundation

Hi friends!  Today I am doing my first beauty post.  Watch out, I hope not to scare you away when you see me without my makeup on!  I have been struggling for a while to find a foundation that works with my skin.  Unfortunately, I have a lot of hyperpigmentation and especially in the summer with a little sun, it shows its dark self.  I wear sunscreen every day, but any amount of sun seems to make it flare up.

I recently went to Sephora and had a consultation to find a new foundation.  I really wasn't using anything but a concealer and a powder, but the time had come for something all over.  I think I had always avoided foundation because it felt so thick and heavy on my skin.  I explained this to the consultant and she was able to find something which was light and not too weighty.

IMG_9206Sephora has a really neat Color IQ system that I didn't know existed.

Color IQ

They use this camera to take pictures on various places on your face and then using a color tone library of over 110 shades of foundation, they make your perfect match.

My color IQ was iy07 (whatever that means), but my perfect shade was from Urban Decay, a product called, Naked Skin.IMG_9443

After choosing the perfect shade, I was then instructed on the proper way to apply foundation.  I apparently had been doing it all wrong?!

Here's how it SHOULD be done.

1. Begin by prepping your skin with a moisturizer which contains a sunscreen.

2. Use a brush.

No idea that this was how to put on foundation.  I had always used my fingers or a sponge.  Both of which could have been reasons why foundation always felt heavy on my skin.  I was spackling it on rather than airbrushing it.

3. Put a squirt of foundation on your skin and using the brush then dab it and apply.

By putting it on your hand, it warms it up and makes it go on more smoothly.

4. To get an airbrushed finish, blend makeup all over, including the eye area, starting in the middle and working your way out.

5. Ta Da!  An all over smooth and light feeling foundation in which to begin your makeup routine.

What foundation do you use?
