This mantel kind of happened by accident! I'll call it a happy accident and sometimes that's just how decorating works out! I had an idea to incorporate pears into my fall mantel in my dining room so I hopped on Amazon and ordered what I thought were realistic looking faux pears. Certainly using real pears would be beautiful, but I'm hoping to create something that will last through the season. Well, when they arrived, they were far from realistic looking, so I had to come up with a Plan B. Instead of ditching the pears, I thought I can work with these! There's nothing that a little paint can't fix, am I right?
To go with my brass vintage candlesticks I was planning on using, I decided to paint these faux pears a metallic gold. The specific gold paint I had on hand is no longer made, but I will link below a few different options including spray paint which would also work well for this project.

This was a super easy project, but messy! Since they are a round odd shape, it's easier to do it in phases and let dry before tackling the next section or if you are in a hurry like me, then throw caution to the wind and get paint all over your hands and don't care!
Two coats was enough for full coverage. I avoided painting the stems in order to leave those a natural color. I love how they turned out! Such a pretty gold with just enough shine. Paired with brass candlesticks and eucalyptus branches I purchased on Amazon (LINK), it was even better than I expected. You can view a whole video which includes more of my brass candlestick collection over on YouTube (LINK). and see exactly how I painted the pears in the video at the end of this post.
