Mantel Decorating Ideas Without Using a Television

Today, I'm going to show you a variety of ideas on how to decorate your mantel without using a television.

I have always enjoyed decorating a mantel but it isn't always the easiest thing to decorate.  Our instinct is to put a television over it, but if that isn't what your want or need in a space, you can often feel stumped.  I have gathered a lot of ideas besides televisions that will hopefully jumpstart your creativity and work for your next mantel redecorating.

Mantel Decorating Ideas Without Using a Television

  • Frames

In this mantel, I used a variety of empty frames to stack and layer on my mantel.  This all white themed mantel (LINK) makes a statement with the sizes and designs of the frames.  The fact that they match in color makes it not too chaotic.

  • Wood Pallet

I love this idea of using a wood pallet by Songbird Blog (LINK) and changing out what you put on it each season to update it.  Keeping the backdrop the same makes it quick and easy to refresh in just minutes.

  •  Collections

I love seeing collections on the mantel.  Here a beautiful ironstone collection was used for a pretty Cozy Vintage Christmas Mantel by Postcards From the Ridge (LINK)

Another great mantel is this one by Dabbling and Decorating (LINK) which has a collection of plates but also brass candlesticks!

  • Chalkboard

Chalkboards are a versatile way to decorate your mantel because of the ease of changing out what you write on them to whatever occasion or season you are celebrating.  Here in this Farmhouse Christmas Mantel (LINK), a simple BELIEVE makes a beautiful rustic mantel along with baskets and greens for the holiday.

  • Bottles

This next mantel qualifies in several categories such as frames or collections above. I'm going to give it its own category because bottles are a universal decorating tool.  Green With Decor created this mantel with wine bottles she saved (LINK).

  • Layered Art

Layering art across your mantel is another easy way to change your mantel out whenever you wish. You do not have to put holes in your wall and instead just lean pieces against each other for a new look.

  • Books

I once did a whole book themed mantel scape (LINK)! Even though it had other elements, I carried books from the mantel top down to the hearth.  This look was full of fall charm.

  • Wreath

A traditional statement on the mantel is a wreath.  I like how DIY Beautify layered the wreath over the mirror (LINK) for a little spin on the traditional.

  • Window

You can see Dabbling in Decorating above used an old window on her mantel, I also used a window I found at an antique store to create this spring mantel (LINK).

  • Mirror

My recent fall mantel used a mirror which is a very classic choice (LINK). Combine the mirror with other elements and change them out but leave the mirror as your base each season.

  • Clock

A huge wall clock can make a statement piece over the mantel.  Craving Some Creativity has a beautiful example of this over on her blog (LINK).
