My Life From Home

My Day of Favorites

What is your perfect day?  I can think of a lot of “perfect” days that involve my husband and kids, but by myself?  Not so much.  It’s been too long since I had a day alone to even remember what would make it perfect. As a wife and a mother, you rarely get time alone.  I mean, like in 11 years!  Oh, I get moments or even evenings or afternoons alone, but never full days.  This weekend I had my alone day and I’ll confess it felt a little weird.

My husband had a friend in from out of the country, so he met up with him about 4 hours away and they took all the kids to a baseball game.  Guess what that meant for me.  I got to stay home.  Yippy!!  Yep, that truly hasn’t happened for me in over a decade.

I found myself thinking of my kids and also kind of feeling guilty, but oh how I enjoyed it!  I decided to go all out and make it a day of favorites.  Here’s what I did.

I started the morning with my favorite drink, coffee.IMG_9559Felt like a hipster riding downtown in my husband’s jeep with the top off.IMG_9558Did a little shopping at the local City Flea with a friend.IMG_9478Then my favorite lunch.IMG_9484Relax time with this little guy.IMG_9541IMG_9555And last but not least, one of my favorite movies and a cocktail.IMG_9554Can you guess the movie?  Yes, guilty as charged.

Ah, this is the good life.  But,… I did get excited when I saw those little faces and one big face walk through that door approximately 36 hours later.

What would you do on your favorite day?

To life feeling like home!

XO,

Amy

Sounds like a perfect day to me! I have three boys, so I don’t often get a full day to myself either. When it happens, I almost don’t know what to do with myself. Glad you had a great day!

That is my idea of a perfect day. And what a lovely way to end it with a cocktail and a good movie.

My kids are older now so I spend a lot of time alone. When they were younger, I enjoyed spending time shopping, eating out and then reading.

If you like the sort of recommendation that still holds up six months later, leave your email below and I'll write to you on Sunday.

Most Sundays, once the house has gone quiet and it's edging towards nine, a letter goes out. It's the one I'd write to a friend with good taste and not nearly enough time: one thing worth reading, one thing worth buying, and one thing to skip. No noise, no pressure to spend, just the considered version of what I've actually been using, loving, or quietly sending back.
