Chairs and Stools as Plant Stands

Today, I'm encouraging you to think outside the box to display your plants in your home.  Use chairs and stools in your decor to house some of your favorite plants and add interest to your displays.

In the last year, I would say I have embraced indoor plants.  I love the way they fill a space with warmth and texture.  Adding living plants to my decor has been one of the greatest updates I've done in my new home.  I have by no means become an expert, but I've enjoyed taking care of them and learning as I go.

Besides the traditional way of displaying plants, I have found one of my favorite ways is using chairs and stools as plant stands. Both chairs and stools can be found at thrift stores and antique stores.  I am always on the hunt for them and am especially drawn to ones that are green, white, or gray.  The best part is you can always update them with paint to match your decor if they aren't the right color in their original form.

Today, I'm going to show you how I've used chairs and stools in my decorating as plant stands.

Chairs and Stools as Plant Stands

In the kitchen (LINK), I have used an extra stool I picked up at an antique booth to hold one of my plants.  Then if I need the stool at the counter,I can pop off the plant and pull it up!  Another spot for holding my plant collection is the bay window in this space.  To create more interest instead of having everything just sitting there all on one level, I have used a wood stool and a small metal stand (LINK) to hold plants.  When things are at different levels, you can add more items and the plants in the back can be seen better.  On a white chair beside the counter, I have plopped another plant pot filled with herbs I use in cooking.

These gorgeous round rose wall decor pictures are a new addition to the White Cottage Home Store (LINK).  I love the addition of this gallery wall in the kitchen.

In the office (LINK), I recently added this pretty green stool beside the fireplace and topped it with a succulent plant.  On the swivel stool between the chairs,  another small plant adds greenery to the room.

In our master bedroom, a fiddle fig leaf tree is resting on an upholstered stool beside our white armoire.  You can read more about this armoire, here (LINK).  It adds a touch of green to the otherwise neutral space.

I am always on the hunt for stools and chairs to use in my decor.  They can hold plants, baskets, serve as extra seating, or fill an otherwise bare corner.  Almost all my stools and chairs came from either antique stores or thrift stores.

I hope this gives you some ideas on how to use them in your own home.  Keep an eye out for chairs and stools next time you are out shopping. They are definitely versatile little items to have on hand.

Thank you, Cathy! I found that at a local antique booth. We had recently gotten Irving and I was sold as soon as I saw that cute dog on top!
