After the excitement of the holiday season, I always feel the need to refresh my home and create a cosy, welcoming space for winter. While the main furniture pieces in my family room stay in place throughout the year, I love making small tweaks with layered textures, warm lighting, and seasonal accents.
This room is a blend of old and new, with the gallery wall serving as a focal point. Over the years, I have collected and curated a mix of thrifted, antique, and new pieces to create a space that feels both personal and inviting. Today, I am sharing how I transitioned our family room into a cosy winter retreat.
One of the easiest ways to make a space feel warm and inviting during winter is by adding plush textiles. Throws, pillows, and soft fabrics help create a layered look that is both stylish and functional.
These small updates make a big impact, giving the room a fresh and cosy feel for the season.
The gallery wall in this space is a mix of artwork, silver trays, and architectural pieces collected over time. Many of the pieces are antique store and thrift shop finds, combined with newer artwork that blends seamlessly into the display.
I love how this collection has evolved over the past two years. It is a true reflection of my style and adds character to the room. I continue to add to it as I find unique pieces that fit the aesthetic.
Our fireplace remains a cosy focal point during winter, and Daryl, our deer, is still proudly displayed above it. If you have been following along, you might remember that he was a Springfield Flea Market find from last spring.
I like to keep the mantel styling simple for winter, with a few classic blue and white pieces that complement the colour scheme of the entire room. These accents flow effortlessly with the rest of the house, making seasonal transitions easy.
The Turkish rug in this space continues to be one of my favourite pieces. Its rich texture and muted colours provide warmth underfoot while anchoring the entire room. If you missed my post about it, you can read more here.
Refreshing your home for winter does not have to be a big project. Small updates, like switching out textiles, rearranging furniture, and adding seasonal touches, can make a space feel new again.
I hope this tour inspires you to embrace the winter season by making your home feel warm and inviting. Let me know in the comments how you refresh your space for winter, I would love to hear your ideas!
